Description

Henry Naldrett, flight engineer, Hatcher Crew, 83 Squadron at 5 Group.

Context

This interesting copy of correspondence with the Ministry of Labour, Allocation Office. gives a picture of Henry Naldrett's difficulties in being accepted for the RAF in early 1943. His eighteenth birthday was on 13 March 1943, when he would have been liable for conscription. The typescript shows the importance of his being in the Air Training Corps, the ATC, to his application to join the RAF. He would be discharged from the ATC on 22 March 1943, probably having been accepted by the RAF by then. It is notable that the Army Colonel mentioned here advises that Henry joins the Home Guard immediately, presumably to further attest to his keenness. The presence of a sheet of Home Guard instructions in Henry Naldrett's papers suggests that he may have followed the Colonel's advice. Donated by Owen White and Catlin LLP Solicitors on behalf of the Naldrett family.
