Some of 35 Squadron's aircraft were sponsored by the Madras Presidency, hence the alternative name of "35 (Madras Presidency) Squadron"; the aircraft were named to reflect the sponsorship. In the detail from the photograph, Pete Balson, of the Lane crew, can be seen (third from right, second row of aircrew, in the original photograph).
