RAF/PW: Davidson, letter 43-06-25 to Jean DavidsonEntry/Object ID
2023.1200Description
Jack Davidson, formerly wireless operator with the Hoos crew, 35 Squadron, now a POW. First postcard home. (2 images)Context
Using the standard POW postcard, Jack Davidson writes to his wife and Ian, his young son, to tell her that he is well but the rest of the crew had all been killed.
He now has a prisoner of war number, 1368705, and so she will be able to write to him. She does not receive this card until 23 July, seven weeks after he was shot down. It arrived before the three letters he had written from hospital and temporary camp, and was therefore the first time she knew that he was alive.
He gives her the news that he was the only member of the crew to survive.
