Description

Members of the Hatcher Crew, 83 Squadron at 5 Group.

Context

Members of the Hatcher crew. On 22 December 1944 the crew involved in a fatal aircraft crash were : S/Ldr Leslie Hatcher DFC, AFM, pilot F/Sgt Henry Naldrett, flight engineer F/Lt Alan John Booker DFC, navigator P/O Edward Marron, bomb aimer W/O Robert Frederick Goodman, bomb aimer F/Lt Charles Summerscales, DFC, wireless operator W/O Frederick James Bell, gunner F/Lt Mervyn Ingmire, gunner Mervyn Ingmire was the only survivor. Ernest Naldrett notes of another photograph apparently taken at the same time that it was taken at a visit to Skegness a few months before his brother Henry lost his life. Both crewmembers are wearing PFF badges, which as they started at 15 Squadron in May 1944 are likely to date from around July 1944. The photograph shows Henry Naldrett (right) with a man wearing a "B" brevet, so probably either Edward Marron or Robert Goodman. Donated by Owen White and Catlin LLP Solicitors on behalf of the Naldrett family.
