Description

The 1943 Ford GPW was a lightweight but highly capable 4x4 military vehicle that became one of the most recognizable machines of World War II. Produced by Ford Motor Company under license from the U.S. government, the GPW was built to the same standardized design as the Willys MB to meet the Army’s urgent need for a durable, all-terrain reconnaissance and utility vehicle. The Ford GPW quickly proved indispensable on the battlefield. Between 1941 and 1945, more than 647,000 Jeeps were produced for Allied forces, including approximately 277,000 Ford GPWs. Manufactured in multiple Ford assembly plants across the United States, the GPW served in nearly every theater of war, earning a reputation for reliability, versatility, and exceptional off-road capability under the harshest combat conditions.
