Name/Title

1871 Thorndike Station

Description

The Thorndike Station was constructed in 1871 to serve the Belfast and Moosehead Lake Railroad. The first female Station Agent in the state of Maine, Gertrude Higgins, served here from 1943 to 1960. It was in 1960 that passenger services stopped and the station was no longer utilized by the B&MLRR. It was donated to the Railway Village Museum in 1965. It houses Maine railroad signs, furnishings and the Station Agent’s office. The Station Agent office accurately reflects the activities of that post.
