Name/Title

1928 Maxim Fire Truck

Description

Also known as "Old Engine No. 1," this fire truck was manufactured in Middleborough, MA in 1928 by Maxim. This was the first motorized fire engine in Newcastle, ME, and served the town for over 30 years. In 1960, it was sold to Hyde Park, VT, and later Morrisville, VT where it was used as a service truck. Soon after, it was sold to the Northfield Volunteer Fire Company in Northfield, VT. After finding a picture of the fire truck online, members of the Newcastle Fire Department drove to Northfield and matched its serial number to their records. After a 49-year absence, this truck returned to Maine and was loaned to the museum by the Newcastle Fire Department.
