Description

The fiesta salt and pepper shakers were part of a fourteen-piece set made through the entire vintage production. Though they were part of the original line, they were sold separately and not as pairs although there is a distinct difference in them. The pepper shakers have smaller holes and a smaller hole pattern than the salts. They were also one of the only unmarked items in the fiesta-ware line because of their small size. They are slip cast and the mold seam would have to be smoothed by hand. In our collection, the turquoise shaker is for salt and the yellow is a pepper shaker. Interestingly, pre-1972 pieces (such as those in the RVM collections) may be slightly radioactive, due to uranium compounds being used in the ceramic glaze to achieve certain colors, especially red.
