Vintage "Smokey the Bear" forest rangers ceramic salt and pepper shakers. Made in Japan. Smokey the bear is an American campaign and advertising icon for the U.S. Forest service. Originally the slogan in 1944 was "Smokey says - Care will prevent 9 out of 10 forest fires". In 1947 it changed to "Remember...Only you can prevent forest fires.".
