Although this set appears to be carved from wood, it is actually a plaster-like clay pottery treated with a rubbed bisque finish called "wood stain". This finishing treatment was used by the Treasure Craft company beginning in the mid 1950s. The shakers are shaped like a squirrel and acorn. The shakers nest inside a basin with a floral decor and name plate stating, "Washington". The underside of the basin is imprinted with the words "Treasure Craft Made in the U.S.A." The same shaker set was made with other souvenir plates such as other states and tourist locations.
