Name/Title

1925 Spruce Point Chapel

Description

In the early 1900s there were very few chapels in the Boothbay region. Most religious services and children's Sunday school took place in a private home of someone in the community. In 1923 after partial funds had been raised by year-round residents of Spruce Point, local woman, Mrs. Holland, approached wealthy summer residents to front the remaining monies needed to build a chapel. Construction began in 1923 and the chapel's official dedication took place in the fall of 1925. The chapel's religious uses ended at some point in the 1970s and in 1992 it was donated to the Railway Village where it was once again opened to the public several years later. Once again, weddings can take place within its walls.
