Description

Printed community and lifestyle magazine issue of San Diego’s North County Living focused heavily on La Jolla preservation, development, culture, dining, entertainment, and community life during July 1976. Major feature articles include “Shock” by Steve Kowit examining controversy surrounding electroconvulsive therapy, “La Jolla Historical District” by David L. Robinson regarding failed preservation efforts surrounding historic La Jolla structures including the Red Rest and Red Roost cottages, “Real Estate Bargain-Hunting in La Jolla” by Anne D’Arcy, and “La Jolla Lonely Hearts.” Additional editorial content covers regional dining, film criticism, travel, wine, business activity, cycling, and Rancho Santa Fe social news. The issue documents debates over historic preservation and coastal development in La Jolla during the Bicentennial era while also reflecting broader North County recreational, commercial, and cultural life. Advertising throughout the issue promotes banks, real estate, restaurants, fashion, resorts, automotive dealerships, savings and loan institutions, and local retail businesses serving coastal North County communities.
