Title
Editorial cartoon by Brent Turner, Rancho Santa Fe 50th anniversary student work, 1977
Description
Student editorial cartoon by fifth-grade student Brent Turner, created as part of an assignment to communicate a serious issue visually. The drawing contrasts a wooded rural landscape with horses and a barn against a dense urban skyline, presenting concerns about development and changes to the character of Rancho Santa Fe. An accompanying handwritten statement by fifth-grade teacher Lenora Meyer explains that the class assignment followed a study of editorial cartoons and asked students to create an original cartoon conveying an important message without relying on explanatory text.
