Boot from Statue

Name/Title

Boot from Statue

Entry/Object ID

RC.AC.06.42

Description

This hollow-molded terracotta fragment preserves the lower foot and boot (calceus or endromis-type footwear) from a life-sized or near-life-sized statue. The fragment delineates the smooth, rounded toe box, instep, and open collar/opening at the ankle, revealing the hollow interior characteristic of large-scale press-molded terracottas. Composed of a pale buff-to-light tan earthenware clay matrix, the piece exhibits an elongated profile resting along a flattened lower sole line. Sharp, irregular fractures along the upper ankle collar and heel section indicate where it separated from the main leg assembly of the statuette or statue.
