Terracotta, Terracotta VotivesDescription
This small terracotta object is a fragment of a mold-made female figurine, preserving the head, upper torso, and right arm. The head is encased in a thick, rounded mantle (himation) or cowl draped over the head that flows downward into the body. The right arm is folded across the chest beneath the heavy fabric, creating a pronounced diagonal fold across the upper midsection.
Composed of a dark, greyish-brown to earth-toned clay matrix, the fragment is broken diagonally across the mid-torso, terminating in a sharp, irregular fracture that obscures the lower body and base. Facial features are heavily worn and smoothed by erosion, retaining only the basic oval structure of the face framing the headpiece.Category
