Terracotta Votives, TerracottaDescription
This molded terracotta bust depicts a male figure terminating in a broad, rounded base. The shoulders are softly modeled, clad in drapery with fine vertical and diagonal folds extending across the chest. The neck rises into the lower facial structure; however, the main facial plane and crown of the head are heavily fractured and missing, leaving a prominent vertical void flanked by side sections of hair or a head covering. The male figure has medium-length wavy hair with a thick beard.
Composed of a warm, reddish-brown to terracotta clay matrix with visible surface weathering, the bust features a wide hollow base typical of press-molded votive terracottas. Dedicated at sanctuary sites, such votive busts were commonly offered to divine deities as gifts of devotion or supplication.Collection
