Terracotta, Terracotta VotivesDescription
This mold-made terracotta fragment preserves the torso, lower body, and draped garments of a standing female figurine, with the head missing above the neck. The figure is clad in a long tunic (chiton) and wrapped mantle (himation), with heavy fabric folds falling vertically along the legs and gathering across the midsection. The arms are positioned close to the body, enveloped within the drapery.
Composed of a warm, buff-to-tan earthenware clay matrix, the fragment terminates in a clean, irregular break across the neck line where the head severed from the body. The figurine rests on a simplified or integrated low base, characteristic of single-front press-molded terracottas produced across the Greco-Roman Mediterranean for domestic shrines or sanctuary offerings (votives).Collection
