Terracotta, Terracotta VotivesDescription
This small terracotta fragment represents the lower legs and draped garment section of a standing mold-made figurine. Vertical, linear folds of heavy drapery (chiton or himation) extend downward along the length of the legs, tapering slightly toward the lower base. The outer contour on the left side curves gently outward near the upper break, indicating the original curve of the hip or lower torso.
Composed of a warm, reddish-tan earthenware clay matrix with coarse inclusions, the fragment is broken horizontally at both ends: across the upper midsection and at the lower feet/base. The flat, unmodeled back wall is characteristic of press-molded votive figurines intended for single-sided, frontal display in sanctuary or funerary contexts.Collection
