Name/Title
Fragmented Draped Female Figure Broken at WaistEntry/Object ID
RC.AC.06.34Description
This mold-made terracotta fragment preserves the head, draped veil/mantle, and upper torso of a female figurine. The head is crowned with a rounded veil or garment folded over the hair that cascades down around the neck and shoulders. Soft facial features are preserved in low relief, showing an oval jawline and generalized contours framing the face.
Composed of a coarse, brownish-grey to terra-cotta earthenware clay matrix, the fragment exhibits subtle traces of reddish pigment along the shoulders and chest. The figure is broken horizontally across the midsection/waist line, terminating in a rough, irregular fracture. Created using a single front press-mold, such small votive statuettes were widely dedicated at sanctuary sites across the ancient Greco-Roman world.Collection
