Terracotta, Terracotta VotivesDescription
This small terracotta object preserves the complete head and upper neck section of a male figurine. The head features an oval contour with simplified, compact facial structure, including deep-set orbital sockets, a prominent nose bridge, and a softly defined mouth and chin. The hair or cap forms a smooth, low-profile dome wrapping across the crown of the head.
Composed of a sandy, buff-to-light tan earthenware clay matrix, the piece terminates at the lower neck in a flat, horizontal fracture line where it detached from the original statuette's torso or shoulders. The soft, rounded contours are characteristic of press-molded votive terracottas produced in single-front molds for ancient sanctuary offerings.Collection
