Scope and Content

Color postcard of the “Flag Raising” at Camp Grant, Rockford, IL. Photo is predominantly black and white with exception of the blue-sky background. With images of lines of men facing the American flag on the flagpole. Back of the postcard has a poem on the upper left side in green: "Beloved of our country! The message we;send;From realms where the hopes of the patriots; blend; with prayers of the martyrs who suffer for; you; In unity stand by the Red, White and Blue." Handwritten pencil note follows and discusses the rain and arriving to camp late. With a green one cent stamp in the upper right and addressed to "Miss Josephine Raupp; Arlington Heights, Ills." Underneath the address is a green stamp: "Back the boys in the trenches buy a liberty loan bond. Inquire at any bank or post office. Dear Cousin, Arrived here safe. It 10:45 when I got here this time.Is it raining down there too? It is raining quite a little here just now. I was working in the kitchen today that is worse then drilling. ha ha Cousin Bernard
