This 10 cent token was a value exchange currency token given to watermen in payment for oysters they had harvested. In turn the watermen could redeem the notes for merchandise in Carter's Monaskon Store. Issued by A.L. Carter of Midway in Lancaster County in 1868. Typical of notes privately produced during the early 1800's and during the period of reconstruction after the Civil War
