Description

Photo of fishboat Louise, the largest wooden fishboat built and the first to use oil-fired boilers and refrigeration. Her engines came out of the merchant ship Caponka. Caponka is the vessel in the photo of the end of Main St from about 1922. Caponka was a WWI wooden freighter that Menhaden Watermen bought as surplus. Caponka had to be beached on the sandbar off of Reedville because she was sinking, hence the children playing on her in the photo. Donated by Randolph Palmer, grandson of John A. Palmer
