The "Luce Brothers" was built in 1877 in Niantic, CT, and later owned by Virginia Seaboard Oil & Guano, Reedville, VA and J Howard Smith, Port Monmouth NJ. Smith raised her and rebuilt her as a diesel, and she became one of the first large fish boats for his fleet.
Acquired by the Navy in 1917 (#SP 846) and used as guardship and for patrol duty. Returned to owner 1919, later wrecked in Louisiana marsh.Collection
