The "Reedville" was built for the US Army as an FS 278 (freight service) vessel, in Long Island, NY, in 1944. She was used to supply bases in the Pacific, the bought by the Navy in 1960 and converted to a range instrumentation ship. She worked out of Point Magu, CA, then Little Creek, VA, and finally off Virginia coasts.
She began menhaden fishing in Reedville in late 1960s or early 1970s.Collection
