Biography

Rena grew up in Tylicz, Poland, on the border of Slovakia. After the invasion by Germany, she and her sister, Danka, were sent by their parents to Slovakia. Rena stayed in Bardejov with her cousins, Gizzy and Cili Schutzer, and her Aunt Regina and Uncle Jacob. She relocated to Humenne where she worked as a nanny. Her best friends from Tylicz, Erna Dranger and Dina Dranger (cousin to Erna) also worked in Humenne as nannies. The three girls were collected and deported to Auschwitz on the first transport. Rena's sister was hiding in Bratislava at that time and arrived in Auschwitz on the second transport; her number was #2775.
