Matzo making with the Berkowitz family and friends, Pesach (Passover) 1940. Far left, in white apron is Peshy Steiner, Bertha's best friend. Behind Peshy is Bertha (#1048). The next four standing are an unidentified young woman, then two of Bertha's sisters (Lily and Magda) and Peshy's sister in a white apron holder a roller. In front of the young women are Bertha's mother (dressed in black, black scarf) and Peshy's mother beside her. Sitting and holding the large mixing bowl is Bertha's brother, Volvi. The only other survivor, aside from Bertha) is Herschel Einhorn, far right, middle row with a cap on and a cocky smile (next to boy with the roller). Bertha's surviving sister, Fany, and their brother Emil, are not in this photo. Everyone else was murdered in Auschwitz.
Pre-war making Matzo for Passover in traditional Jewish way, circa 1940. Only two people in the photo survived the Holocaust.
