Biographical Information

Biography

Roza was the eldest of the sisters. She was a Block Elder and oversaw the Nyssen Huts that the French women were kept in June 1942. Roza had a terrible reputation in camp and was called "mean" by other prisoners, which may be why the sisters were caught when they tried to escape. There is a suggestion that someone gave them up. Roza organized the black market trade the sisters ran, and started bartering for extra food on the first day, telling her sisters to eat the sausage she organized from a guard and ignore that it was pork.
