Permanent CollectionDescription
Ceramic decorative object of eastern origin, most probably Turkish (Turkic), a component part within a large hanging lamp, with elaborate floral and geometric decoration in vibrant colors; oblong shape close to almost spherical; this object is hollow within, with a hole at the top and another perpendicular at the bottom; its ceramic composition may be similar to fritware (quartz-based glaze) and originally from the Iznik area (formerly known as Nicaea). This object has all indications to have been a part/component of a large hanging lamp formerly in use at Turkish traditional style mosques, such as the Sulemaniye Mosque in Istanbul, and also in funerary dwellings built during the Ottoman Empire era.Acquisition
