Description

A concert zither. It has 5 fret board strings and 27 accompaniment strings. The zither went through a period of popularity in the late 19th through early 20th century when it was greatly in vogue as a parlor instrument in many homes.

Context

The owner of this instrument is Ripon Historical Society board member and longtime Riponite, Chris Wiegand. Chris can play various instruments, including the violin, guitar, mandolin, piano, organ, and accordion. He lettered in music during high school. In the 1950s, he played violin with the Manitowoc Symphony.
