Description

Knitted mittens done in Latvian pattern.

Context

Knitting is type of fiber art in which yarn is manipulated to create a textile or fabric. It is believed that knitting originated in the Middle East in the 5th century and then traveled to Europe with wool traders. Knitting may be done by hand or by machine. Over the years many women knitted everyday clothing, socks, and other needed items for their families. These knitted mittens were done in a Latvian pattern by Dr. Christal Rahjes Sakrison who lives on Watson Street. Sakrison neets weekly with a small group of ladies who knit together.
