Quilt: Printed cotton chintz with panels of red ground flowered material and panels of blue ground flower and William Henry Harrison pattern manufactured for either his 1836 or 1840 presidential campaign. Lining and border are small figured light colored material. Size c. 84" x 75". Fabric faded, soiled and area c. 4" x 4" in red panel torn exposing white cotton batting. Hand quilted by Abigail Phillips Hockenbery b. 1806 and d. in Ripon 1888. Moved to Ripon/Green Lake area after Civil War. Lived on Brooklyn G. Donor Mary Begitschke was maker's great, great granddaughter and the granddaughter of the previous owner Mrs. Horace Bumby of Ripon. Probably dates from c. 1840.
