Scope and Content

Composition A Lily of the Valley, published by Wilde Brothers, 308 Main St., Ripon, WIS. 1903. Edward W. and John D. Wilde published this short piece for orchestra, according to the front page, and dedicated to the Ripon Band Orchestra of Ripon. Piece is 8 pages with the last page displayed upside down. Front page includes a photo of Edward and John. The Pedrick Notebooks gives John's birthdate as 1887 and states that Edward was in Arizona by 1904 "for his health" but died before 1909. Photos show the men in band uniforms so other photos in the collections may show them as part of a Ripon band/orchestra. The Prill donation of the sheet music was in very poor condition and so discarded. A fresh copy was found in the collection and assigned this number. 12/7/23 CWS 01/2025: Stored in Folder 2007.0456 Flat File Drawer 4. A 1904 Ripon Commonwealth Press announcement of Edward's death states that he was born in 1884. Edward died at the age of 21 in Arizona. At the age of 17, he went to Berlin, Germany to study violin. He studied for two years before returning due to ill health. See attached newspaper clipping. 08/18/2024 Sisko
