Description

Cane, sword: Carved black wood cane with fish shaped handle carved ivory like neck and brass ring. Brass tip on bottom - Handle unlocks to expose steel sword attached to handle. Belonged to " Count " Lawrence Masche b. 2/5/1902 d. 3/24/1984, husband of Irene Hoffman Masche. Used , minimal signs of wear.

Context

Popular during the 18th and 19th centuries. Carved black, wooden cane with fish-shaped handle, carved inlaid bone decoration on neck, and brass ring. Brass tip on bottom. Handle unlocks to expose steel sword attached to handle. Mailman and stamp collector, Lawrence Masche, was regarded as a national collector among philatelists. He was an ardent collector for more than 15 years and acquired over 10,000 stamps. Masche’s stamps are part of the Society’s collection.
