Ceresco PrairieContext
History is being made every day and the Ripon Historical Society wishes to welcome Folse as a new artist in the community. The painting on display was recently completed of Ripon's Ceresco Prairie. At one time Ripon was known as the Prairie City due to the vast prairies surrounding it. Folse is fortunate to live near the Ceresco Prairie Conservancy, a 130-acre project to restore the land to its native prairie, oak savannah and wetlands habitat. The first restoration seeds were planted in the spring of 1996 and since then each season is filled with the wonders of the prairie from abundant wildflowers of the spring and summer, the bright reds and oranges of the fall, and the stark white beauty of the winter.
Folse creates abstracted landscapes through imagined places with color, light, and shape. He mixes his artistic skill and intentions with chance by using aerosol paints and wet inks as well as brush painting with oil or watercolor paint. Folse has a master's degree in fine art from Illinois State University. He was influenced from the mountainous landscapes and various painting materials during a six week residency at the Shiro Oni Studio in Japan. He also draws inspiration from the five months he spent living in Spain.Lexicon
