Description

16 11/16 " long black fife with 1 silver tip: the mouth piece end is missing. Card with fife says Zobel family were donors and the fife was brought to Ripon from Vermont in 1853 by James Wilson Allen. Pedrick Genealogy says Allen was born at Goshen, VT. 10/6/1825, married in 1848 and removed to Wisconsin in 1853 settling on a farm in Brooklyn, west of Arcade on the Green Lake Road. He died in 1908. His grandfather was a relative of Ethan Allen of Revolutionary War fame. Information about owner's musical interest not known. See Pedrick papers and Murray family file in archives. James Allen built the Murray brick home in 1860. Fife shows hard wear and does not play. Dates from 1858 or earlier.
