Description

This 64" x 84" white cotton quilt is embroidered with yellow and black thread. It includes 35 circles divided into 16 triangles, half yellow, half black. Twenty-three of the circles contain embroidered autographs of the members of the Women's Circle of Ripon's St. Peter's church and their family members. Some circles are not embroidered with names but have a letter of the alphabet in their center. One circle has the date 1916 which is when the quilt was made as a fundraiser. The following names with their titles are among the names on the quilt: Mrs. George C. Graf, President, Parochial Branch; Miss Anna Gillette, Secretary, Parochial Branch; Mrs. Edgar C. Barnes, Treasurer. The quilt is intact but the fabric is yellowed and some of the black embroidery has stained or run on the white fabric. All the quilting is hand sewn. A complete list of names with diagram is kept in Donor's File for exhibit purposes. Quilt is stored with Quilt Collection at Pickard. House. 2016 Note: Says on quilt "Ladies Society". 2017 Note: A1217: Added to National Quilt Index 2/4/2017 by WI Museum of Quilts & Fiber Arts, Cedarburg, WI.
