Description

Part of a quilt measuring 40" x 82". One side is unfinished and length suggests it was wider. Front side is made of red and blue squares of a coarsely woven fabric, probably hand woven wool. Back is covered with tan fabric which also is probably hand woven wool. All hand stitched including quilting over squares. Fabric worn and patched. The "coverlet" was made by Polly Nickerson Maxwell for her "spare room" according to a note with the coverlet. Using the Pedrick Genealogy information it appears she was the grand mother of Henry J. Maxwell of 708 Watson Street who was b. 1872 and d. 1951 in Ripon. The quilt probably dates to the early 1800's.
