Poster 14" W x 22" H advertising Sousa and his Band in the Ripon College gym on Sept. 24-conducted by Lt. Commander John Philip Sousa. According to a label next to the poster when displayed on the wall of the "Store" in Lawson House, the concert was part of Ripon's 1928-29 "Famous Artists Course", managed by Sam Pickard. Poster on white background is in color and features picture of Sousa. Soiled and torn at corners where hung but information and picture intact and legible. Photo copy of cover of 1929-1930 "Famous Artists Course" program and program insert of the "Sousa and His Band" concert program included with and stored with the poster in archives flat file. Sousa, a composer and musician/conductor was b. November 6, 1854 in Washington D.C. and d. in 1932. His career began with the Marine Corps Band, but in 1892 he formed his own band and toured the world. More information on Sousa in Donor file. Poster stored in Archives flat files.Acquisition
