RCA Victor dog, "Nipper."

Context

This statue was a part of the Radio Corporation of America’s (RCA) advertising campaign beginning in 1898 and still being used in some advertisements today. The dog is based on a Terrier mix named Nipper who lived from 1884 to 1895 in Bristol, England. The dog belonged to Mark Barruad, when Mark died in 1887 Nipper went to his brother Francis Barruad. Francis was a painter and decided to create a painting of Nipper listening to a phonograph.
