Belle Lawson’s button collection consists of 115 cards with buttons sewn on, like the two currently on display. The buttons within the collection vary from military uniform buttons to buttons collected from locations or donors, or they might be examples of engraving, design, or material. 7 Boxes - 115 cards with buttons sewn on. Collected 1941-1973. 1 Box - Contains 2 sets of original, handwritten indexes by Belle Lawson highlighting specific buttons on cards. For Belle Lawson, every button had a story. Lawson kept detailed notes about each button in spiral notebooks. In her notebooks, she describes who owned each button, where each button came from, what it was made of, and any interesting features. Lawson realized that “button designers, in the past, were real artists, as well as marvelous craftsman.” Also contains original notes. 1 3-Ring Binder - Copy of index.
