Ceramic pot with lid, constructed by Helen Biedron. Ceramic with low-fire glazes.Context
In her younger years, Helen Biedron, was encouraged to attend art school by her high school teachers and friends in West Allis but was unable due to the realities of the Great Depression. However, she later received some artistic training at the Art Center in Janesville, Ohio, after World War 2. Biedron moved to Ripon in 1957 and joined the Community Art Center in 1958. Her obituary reads, "She continued her development as an artist auditing classes in the art department of Ripon College. Her proudest achievement, outside of raising her children, was sharing her lifetime of artwork with a crowd of art enthusiasts at a one-woman show at Ripon College."
She used many forms of media ranging from oil paint to ceramics, but her work is mostly characterized by her bold use of colors depicting a wide range of subject matter.
Biedron's work was impressionistic, as the artist loved the style of impressionism the most, but she also explored and grew to love more modern styles.*
