Description

Tulip appliqued quilt 78 x 98. The flowers are in two shades of pink with green leaves on a background of white cotton with green border and bias tape edging. Back side of quilt is pink cotton cloth. Both the quilting and applique are hand sewn. Quilt is intact with some fading of frontside cloth appliques. A note about the quilt says it was made by the 80 year old aunt of Marcella Pedrick Morgan. As Marcella's father, Sam, did not have sisters "Aunt Mary" is probably a sister of her mother Mildred who was born in 1875. Quilt probably dates c. 1900. 2017 Note: A1218: Added to National Quilt Index 2/4/2017 by WI Museum of Quilt & Fiber Arts, Cedarburg, WI. 12/23/2016. Maribeth Schmit, Quilt Documentation Chair, Wisconsin Museum of Quilts & Fiber Arts quote: "This is an Aunt Martha's design, #8.68, Unnamed-Prize-Winning quilts in the Barbara Brackman Encyclopedia of Applique book." Pattern c. 1933. This quilt was sewn from a kit.
