August Klingbail was the night policeman in Ripon and a Ripon resident for 58 years. He retired as police chief in 1933.
A 1906 story in the Ripon Free Press, reported how August Klingbail’s family once narrowly escaped death. On a cold early morning, Officer Klingbail came home to find his wife and son unconscious and his daughter barely conscious. He quickly made action, summoning a doctor and removing his family from the home. Upon investigation, his family had suffered carbon monoxide poisoning as a result of a blocked chimney in the coal burning fireplace. The Klingbail family made a recovery after this incident.Collection
