Description

Artist Statement: Betty's Flowers pays homage to two women. Betty Rasmussen ran a florist business out of her Ripon home in the early 1950s. My mother, Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Williams practiced a range of handicraft skills -- knitting, embroidery, sewing, quilting, lacemaking, and gardening. This piece is rendered in skills I learned from my mother -- knitting and embroidery -- using the same common materials -- cotton yarns and embroidery floss -- that were available to her. It evokes her whimsical gardening style and love of color.
