Woman's velvet hat, c 1927. In the 1920’s, hats continued to get lower on the brow and closer fitting on the head. The “cloche hat”, a bell-shaped piece that sometimes covered the wearer’s head almost entirely, became a staple of the period. Rather than tall feathers or blooms adorning the hats, design was seen through elaborate detailing in shape. The black velvet hat on display has art deco style metallic embellishments.Acquisition
