People started making jewelry around 25,000 years ago. Somewhere around the end of the 4th millennium BC inhabitants of modern-day Turkey learned how to extract silver from lead. After this time silver jewelry started to be made, sometimes as rings which acted as currency. Klapperich is well known in the area for her spinning and weaving skills. The silver pin is displayed on a scrap from a woven shawl she created. Klapperich received both a bachelor's and master's degree in Art Education from UW-Milwaukee and came to Ripon in 1960. She taught art at the middle and high school levels in the Ripon School District for 38 years. She also handled costume design for the high school drama program. During the summer she taught art to children enrolled at the Ripon College ACE (Advanced College Experience) program. Klapperich also taught adult education at Moraine Park Technical College teaching classes such as fundamental art techniques, ceramics, textile art, and art metals. She also taught an independent art study program at Marian University in Fond du Lac.
