Description

Ripon Produce Co. milk can. The can is 24" tall x 13" in diameter. There are two handles at the top, near the opening. Designed for top to be inserted but top is missing. The metal is rusted. Ripon Produce Co. is found in the City of Ripon directories from 1909-1926. The origins trace back to 1870. The company was a result of a merger between the Amends who ran a creamery and JJ Powers Produce company, run by Louis Pynch. The creamery was located at Pacific and Cass Streets, behind the Grandview Hotel. JJ Power was located at 315 Watson (Cold Storage). Horace Bumby arrived around 1914 and moved the company with a focus on dairy. It appears as Ripon Milk Company in the 1927 directory followed by the Ripon Dairy. Horace Bumby went on to head Ripon Foods, beginning in 1930.
