Sign for Zobel Music Studios. Sign hung outside the Zobel family home at 603 Watson St.

Context

In 1928, Edgar Zobel and Lillian Zobel ended their time with the Ripon College School of Music, and opened a new music school called “Zobel Music Studios.” The Studios were in the business district for 2 years, before being relocated to their home at 603 Watson St., where it continued for 10 years. They offered instruction in piano, organ, brass, string, and reed instruments. The staff was comprised of teachers that were known for their level of excellency and the extent of their training.
