Meilahn makes a living doing art professionally and farming east of Ripon in Pickett, Wisconsin. He has traveled across the globe exhibiting his work, but always returns to his roots in Wisconsin. Some of his works are on display at Ripon College. Meilahn specializes in mixed-media sculptures, mainly consisting of glass. While receiving a degree in agriculture at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, he was introduced to glass blowing in their facilities. He fell in love with the unforgiving and versatile nature of glass, which prompted him to be decisive with his artwork. After serving in the Peace Corps, as well as traveling Europe, Meilahn returned to the United States to earn a Master of Science in Art from Illinois State University. After years of trying to keep his two passions of farming and art separate, blown glass corn became a symbol for him of both. Written by Ripon College Students, Sam Thrasher, Allison Bumby, and Dinah Schmidt.
